Dopa Donburi | Regent Place Japanese

Regent Place

I can easily say this is my favourite Japanese spot. In fact I would go as far to say this the most enjoyable Regent Place Japanese spot.

Now I’ve been to some Japanese spots and whilst I wouldn’t necessarily call myself a seasoned veteran in this area at all, I’ve definitely had  Japanese before.

It was a bright sunny day (ironic seeing that we chose a dark food court) and my sister and I were looking for a place close to the station to grab a bite. From previous catchups we had learn the hard way that one does not simply find a café in the city, particularly one outdoors, so we took our bets for checking out this small food court. Across multiple floors, the Regent Place Japanese food scene maintained a strong presence. However coming across this restaurant was honestly a bit of a surprise.

With a bright red exterior and unique interior, Dopa immediately drew my sister and I’s attention.

On top of the exterior, the way the way this restaraunt functioned appeared to be different to other Regent Place Japanese places.

Now many might already be very familiar with restaurant chains like these, but Sophina and I had never come across a Japanese restaurant that had an ordering system like Maccas.

We also made the terrible decision of ordering an extra bowl of rice – spoiler we definitely did not need that rice.

You’re probably thinking – Miranda, please get to the food part.
I hear you – the food was amazing.

The first time I went I just had teriyaki chicken + lychee tea because everything was super unfamiliar but the second time I went I tried their chicken teryaki soba salad, lychee tea (sorry I’m obsessed with lychee tea) and their lotus shubaya toast. I was also joined by a friend who can vouch for the Karaage don and matcha tea!

The dessert was delicious (I’m a sucker for butterscotch) so worth a try!

If you are down for a relatively cheap and delicious treat – definitely check the place out.
I must clarify though, particularly for those who have had a lot more Japanese food, that this place is seen as more ‘fast food’ like, but I still strongly urge a visit!

So next time you happen to be near town hall and craving some Regent Place Japanese, why not check out this hidden spot. You will most definitely see me there 😉

As always, keep exploring, keep learning and be kind,

Miranda
